Weekly Report: The One with the Tot Bags & a Giveaway

This week was fairly normal, not to many exciting things to report, which is kinda unfortunate for you, my reader. So, I’ve decided to spice this report up with a giveaway (details are at the bottom).  Here’s a look at the highlights from our week…

Tot Bags

Tot Bags

I have been placing 4-5 bags/activities along with a few books on the couch for little man each school day over the last week or so. It has worked wonders for our homeschool time.  Little man is entertained, so we can actually get something done!!  The only problem I can see is that as we make more games/bags, we are going to run out of storage space.

A Valuable Lesson

Part of the reason I didn’t post our weekly report yesterday is because princess wasn’t finished all her work.  In effort to begin to foster some independence in her schoolwork, I now give assignments for her to complete each day.  In the past, I would teach the lesson and then she would complete the assignment as I sat nearby, ready to help.  Well, now with the addition of little man and an increase in my workload, plus the fact that she is capable of doing her assignments without a shadow, I decided to shake things up a bit this year.  So for some of our subjects, I teach the lesson, we begin her assignment together and then she has to finish it later, on her own time.   Things went great the first two weeks, but then this week she decided to watch tv instead of finish her work one day.  So, she had to finish her work on a Saturday, something she hates to do.  Lesson learned and I’m thinking that she won’t be doing that again :) .

The Rest

The rest of our week was rather uneventful.  It was packed with learning, but we spend most of our time building foundations, which is not always that interesting to blog about.  However, earlier this week I did share about our first week with Classical Writing Homer, which you may want to check out if you are interested in that program.

Around the Web (and the Giveaway!!)

  • Lapbooking through Matter: Our latest title in our Lapbooking through… Series at Currclick is now available.  It contains 4 lessons on matter for your late elementary student.  In honor of the release, I thought I’d give away one of our lapbooking titles to a reader.  lapbook on matter

Giveaway Details: Go check out our lapbooks at the Elemental Science Currclick store.  Then leave a comment telling me what you think and which lapbook is your favorite.  You can gain an additional entry by subscribing to our feed, just leave a comment to let me know that you’ve done so.  Then, I’ll choose one lucky winner from the comments to get a free digital copy of one of our lapbooking titles on Friday, 8/31/12!  That’s right, you get to choose the title you want, how great is that? (Offer excludes our bundle options.)

  • Harmony Arts Back to School Sale:  This is the first year we have used the Harmony Fine Arts Plan and I couldn’t be more pleased.  In the past I dismissed them because of the fact that I could do it on my own, but reality is that I didn’t.  This year I took the plunge and once I again I see that it is worth paying someone to do the work for you!  Barb has done a great job of pulling together resources that you can use for art and music, which means that it will actually get it done.

So that’s what our week was like, hope you had a great one in your homeschool!  I’m linking this up with the Weekly Wrap-up :) .
